Cubs-Brewers Preview
Through the first two games of this series, the Chicago Cubs have completely shut down the Milwaukee Brewers’ offense. The chances of this happening again in the finale seems unlikely. The Brewers again try to get their offense on track and avoid being swept by the Cubs when they face struggling rookie Casey Coleman on Sunday at Miller Park.

Chicago Cubs Reader Q&A

Question by Mr. Knowledgeable VI: Why do the Chicago Cubs play most of their games during the daytime at Wrigley Field?
When I watch a Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley Field in Chicago I notice that most of the games are played during the daytime instead of nighttime. Although Wrigley Field was the last stadium to get stadium lights, the Cubs play most of their games during the day.

Is there a reason why most of the baseball games at Wrigley Field are played during the day time?

Answer by steveh74135
It was a big battle to get the lights in the first place. The people in the neighborhood didn’t want the big crowds at night and a compromise was made limiting the number of night games.

Answer by urstruly
i agree with the first answer, i think people are accustomed to seeing a baseball game at Wrigley field during the day, it looks a lot better too…i like the simple old school back drop with no swimming pools or elaborate gimmicks, simply ivy….

Question by staggmovie: What was the best Chicago Cubs or Chicago White Sox game of the 2007 season?
This question is for fans of both the Chicago Cubs, and Chicago White Sox. What was the best Chicago Cubs or Chicago White Sox game of the 2007 baseball season. So you get the chance to vote for your own team’s game. When replying, please give me the date of game, the game #, the team they played, what happened in the game, and why you are picking that game for the best of thier games this past 2007 season.

Answer by WindyCityCubs
June 24th, at the Cell. Cubs SWEEP Sox. 3-0 shutout! Soriano goes deep, Howry gets save.

06/29 Cubs vs. Brewers. Ramirez hits 2-run shot off Cordero to win it. Brewers scored 5 runs in the 1st off Hill. Cubs bullpen shuts down Brew crew the rest of the game.

Honorable mention: 07/06 Sox vs. Twins. Sox lose doubleheader, 20-14 and 12-0. Garland gives up 12 runs in 3.1 innings.

Answer by White Sox
Game #149, September 16, 2007, vs. the Angels, at The Cell. Jim Thome hit his 500th HR of his career. That’s awesome! And to make it better, it was in WALK-OFF FASHION! Not many times do you get to see a walk-off homer for #500. Mark Buehrle’s was close behind but I would take that over Mark’s no-no b/c it was an awesome career mark!

Click on Thome! Nothing better!
Watch on Christmas on CSN for a replay of Buehrle’s no-no. Today was the replay of the August 8th game vs. Cleveland where Uribe hit a walk-off in the 13th and Steve Stone (???) predicted it before the inning!

Chicago Cubs Video of the Day

Chicago Cubs shortstop Ryan Theriot has made a name for himself as a hard-working, humble guy who’s willing to do whatever it takes to help his team win. This year he’s added another dimension to his game, blasting five home runs to top his career high in just the first two months of the season. Do Bobby Scales, Mike Fontenot, Micah Hoffpauir and Len Kasper like the new “power hitting” Theriot?

  1. hamrrfan says:

The City Council of Chicago limits the amount of night games that can be played at Wrigley Field. Many people in the neighborhood object to the crowds that come out for night games. There tends to be more rowdiness and drunks in the area then.

  2. Berg says:

You know Wrigley didn’t play night games until 1988. There was a major hold-out from Wrigley (the gum people), who wanted to maintain the original characteristic of baseball, being played in natural sunlight. “The boys of summer” are best viewed in sunlight…I agree. Also, Wrigley Field is in a residential neighborhood, and they didn’t want the night games to disturb the peace there.

Once ownership changed, there was a major push to install lights, but the city of Chicago had banned night games. After MLB threatened to take away all post season home games and the owners threatened to move the team, the lights were turned on. The city finally acquiesced to the demand and allowed limited night games.

The did finally relent and add lights to

  3. staggmovie says:

I am going with hamrrfan, they are limited to how many night games they can do in a year with the city of Chicago, and that started when lights was installed at Wrigley Field in 1988. Sure that thier first attempt got rained out in just a couple of innings, but the next night they manged to complete a night game. And plus apart of this agreement with the city of Chicago, they can’t play home night games on Fridays, like you see the Chicago White Sox do, the only time they can play a Friday Night homegame on the road, they can’t play one at home. They have an agreement with the city of Chicago, and they have to stick to that agreement, otherwise I bet the city of Chicago, won’t let them play home night games anymore. And plus it might also be better that the sooner that you can’t get something started, the sooner that you can get it done. So you can only take as many home night games at Wrigley Field as you can. And maybe for some fans, they might have to go to work or school during the daytime, so it will be hard for them to catch a 1:20 gametime at Wrigley Field.

  4. Jen♥Cubs says:

They claim that it is since Wrigley is in a little neighborhood, to not cause disruption at night. (Which is ridiculous because anyone that lives in Wrigleyville is watching the game anyway…) I think the real reason is because they are still bitter about having to put in lights.

    Also, tradition.

  5. JB says:

Mark Buehrle’s no-hitter against the Texas Rangers on 4/18. The Sox won 6-0. Jermaine Dye hit a grand slam, and Jim Thome hit two solo home runs.

Buehrle faced the minimum 27 batters. Sammy Sosa reached on a walk in the fifth inning, but Buehrle picked him off first base.

Best Cubs game: Probably when their arrogant fans had to eat crow after getting swept out of the playoffs by the Diamondbacks.
