Minnesota Twins Reader Q&A

Question by ZeppineX: Why did the Minnesota Twins ever leave their old ball park?
I saw an old film of the 1965 World Series between the L.A Dodgers and the Minnesota Twins, and was completely amazed at how the Twins old park looked like! It was such a beautiful ballpark!

When and why did the Twins ownership decide to leave that stadium?
It would have been just as old as Dodger Stadium, and look at Dodger Stadium today, it damn near looks like it opened yesterday!

What happened to that ballpark and what was the name of it?

It was named the Metropolitan Stadium (and is where the Mall of America is today (a home plate plaque is in the amusement park section of the mall)).

As for why…. it just wasn’t large enough for the Vikings who also played there, and since it wasn’t viable at the time for the city to have a stadium just for football, the Twins moved too (in 1981). That said though, the Twins will be getting a new park just for themselves in the near future.

Answer by Captain Shannon
It was a “erector set” stadium. Not enclosed with a lot of open spaces. It was a matter of keeping up with the Jones’s.

Answer by ?
Its now the Mall Of America, They wanted a Downtown Stadium in Downtown Minneapolis so More People can see the Games they got it in 1981 for both the Vikings and Twins, Now in 2010 the Twins will get their own Ballpark finally and The Vikings will have to Fight for their own Stadium.

Technically he should have gotten first yes, but that fucker had about a 3XL jersey on and it was almost completely pulled out, he was looking for it and we all know it. Either way, we won, detroit choked.

    it was.

Inge should have gotten first, no question. But the ball barely brushed his jersey. It’s a hell of a tough call. You can’t get too worked up about it. Both teams had their chances to win. Awesome game.

  10. pacmantab says:

Ah yes-the name-calling in lieu of an actual rebuttal. I’m disappointed. Put it this way: If one of our guys’ jersey was barely brushed by the ball walking in the winning run, you’re not griping about the rule? Riiiiiiight. Look, I know how easy it is to lean on the ‘ol “we wuz robbed” crutch, but at some point you have to accept it and move on.

  14. norjak71 says:

thats funny cause the actually rule sais otherwise. retard.

  15. pacmantab says:

Yeah…seriously! When you see him in street clothes he looks really trim. He wears normal size clothes, no gut or anything. When he’s in uniform his jersey literally swims on him…and billows out like he’s doing his best Big Papi impression.

You can call it a weak argument all you want, but you know as well as I do why Mr. Crowds-the-plate wears a too-big jersey

And before you argue the “rules are rules” angle, think about the INTENT of the rule. You should actually get HIT to be HBP

  16. norjak71 says:

3 times to big? uhh, seriously? lol. wow. and your talking about weak arguments. ahh the irony.

  17. pacmantab says:

Love how Detroit fans STILL gripe about how they would have done better against the Yankees and laugh at our being swept. The case was, as much as it pains me to say it, it wasn’t that WE had no chance against NY last year…but that NO TEAM had a chance against them last year. They were THAT good.

Besides, its a pretty weak argument anyway, Tigers fans. Win the tiebreaker next time.

Maybe Brandon Inge should wear a jersey THREE times too big so he’ll get more “‘hit’ by pitch” calls LOL

  18. norjak71 says:

me to man me to. pitchers and catchers report soon. it always seems lik ethe turnaround for baseball after october comes so quickly. i love it.

  19. jussikol1 says:

@norjak71 that takes alot of balls doing what you did. its really rare to get guys who are willing to stop arguing for the sake of baseball and i love it. im a minnesota fan and i will admit that detroit is a very respectable team and everytime the twins and tigers play its always one hell of a game. cant wait till baseball starts!!

  20. jussikol1 says:

i was at this game and it was by far the greatest thing i have ever witnessed in 19 years. haha and 55,000 people singing living on a prayer by bon jovi was also one of the coolest things i have ever seen.

  21. zach4043 says:

being a die-hard minnesota sports fan, mainly twins and vikings, and only being 18 years old, I’d have to say that this was my all-time favorite twins/vikings moment. i was only about 6 months old when the twins won in 91 so that doesn’t count haha

  22. norjak71 says:

i guess justin verlander is shit then right? cmon dude. lets just end this. you love the twins. i love the tigers. they are both respectable teams. we both love baseball and thats the main point. i hate arguing with other baseball fans. theres no point nobody is going to admit theyre wrong, lets not ruin the fun of the game. agreed?

  23. walleyeguy109 says:

i have never heard of any of those guys. the twins have had good prospects like Justin Morneau ever hear of him won the homerun derby, Joe Mauer won two gold gloves and a batting title, Kevin Slowey, Nick Blackburn and Alexi Casilla who by the way got the winning hit against the detroit tigers. way better prospects than Rick Porcello and wilkin ” who the fuck is he” ramirez.

  24. norjak71 says:

really? i think we just had rick porcello come up….boy he aint bad is he? casey crosby?scott sizemore? wilkin ramirez? a few of those on the 50 most touted prospects. your an idiot. OH YEAH…since you like to bring up detroit teams, i think ill say…who dat? LOL.

  25. walleyeguy109 says:

by the way the wild just beat detroit 5-2 bitch. so what the twins came back and won first place in the last week of the regular season and the tigers choked so we made the playoffs and the tigers didnt. lions suck won like 2 games red wings suck because the predators are in second place and you are in third place and the tigers they have a 90 year old manager who gets ejected because he fights with the umps because of stupid calls. the twins farm system is way better thna any other teams.
